Amazon Prime Video used ‘Paheli’ as the latest song drop from ‘Shakuntala Devi’, which gets its global release on July 31. The song centres around the relationship between mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi and her daughter, portrayed by Vidya Balan and Sanya Malhotra on screen.
The music video has a montage of the two leading ladies as they enjoy activities such as picnics in the park and bike rides in London.
Balan took to social media to share her excitement over the song drop: “Solving the #Paheli of this beautiful yet complicated relationship is not so easy! Here’s a beautiful song instead. Meet #ShakuntalaDeviOnPrime July 31, on @primevideoin.”
Directed by Anu Menon and produced by Sony Pictures Networks Productions and Vikram Malhotra (Abundantia Entertainment), ‘Shakuntala Devi’ also stars Jisshu Sengupta and Amit Sadh. The film is a biopic on one of India’s lesser-celebrated female mathematicians, who made a name for herself globally as a “math genius” and whose great instant calculation skills even find a mention in the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’.
Sanya Malhotra, who plays Anupama Banerjee, said: “Everyone knows the achievements of the math genius Shakuntala Devi.
“I’m thrilled to bring onscreen this dynamic mother-daughter relationship and equally thrilled to work with Vidya Balan.”
Director Menon added: “When I met my namesake Anupama Banerji, Shakuntala’s daughter, I went to find the story of a maths whiz – but through spending time with Anupama, I found the story of a woman who was not just a computer but human too!
“I think the audience will fall in love with both Sanya’s and Vidya’s characters.”
Sneha Rajani, Studio Head, Sony Pictures Networks Productions, adds: “The achievements of Shakuntala Devi are unparalleled globally. She was exceptionally gifted and everyone was in awe of her, including myself.”
‘Shakuntala Devi’ will join numerous recent digital releases from Bollywood on Prime Video. The service includes titles in different Indian languages – available in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi and Bengali.
