Time for India-UK Ties to paddle out of The shallow end

Britain's former minister for business engagement with India, Greg Barker, told India Inc. during the Global Wealth Management Conclave 2014 that India and the UK were “paddling in the shallow end of the great pool of potential looking at the size of the economies”.As we flash-back to the highlights of our inaugural conclave last year, we reflect on some of his words to see how far we have come, one year on.India has a new reformist government in place under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the UK is preparing for its General Election next month. The contours of the India-UK relationship may be set for some changes but overall the ties seem to be on a fairly sound footing.Barker (pictured with India Inc CEO Manoj Ladwa and Paul Eagland representing event partner BDO) told the gathering of wealth experts and entrepreneurs: “I am really excited by the prospects of the UK-India relationship. We both have got elections, India now and the UK 2015. But outside politics, beyond politics there is real strength in our business-to- business relationship.“And while we have challenges to negotiate, we have no doubt that focus on the long-term and the fundamental opportunities of this relationship will go from strength to strength.”The above article was published in India Inc′s print edition of the India Investment Journal launched in April 2015 in conjunction with the Global Wealth Management Conclave 2015.
