Sinch enters India with $70mn ACL Mobile acquisition

Swedish cloud computing service provider Sinch AB signed an agreement to acquire Indian firm ACL Mobile for about $70 million in cash. The acquisition will allow Sinch to expand its reach and to leverage ACL's direct connection to mobile operators in India, Malaysia, and UAE and offer end-to-end connectivity, without unnecessary middlemen.

Oscar Werner, CEO, Sinch, said: “With ACL we gain critical scale in the world′s second largest mobile market. We gain customers, expertise and technology and we further strengthen our global messaging product for discerning businesses with global needs.”

The acquisition is Sinch's third large acquisition over the past few months. ACL Mobile Communications serves more than 500 enterprise customers and is particularly successful in Banking and Financial services industry. Its platform enables businesses to interact with their customers through multiple channels including SMS, voice, email, IP messaging, and WhatsApp.

In a move that renewed hope in India’s civil aviation circles, and sent waves of optimism in business circles, the Tata Group acquired beleaguered national carrier Air India for $2.4 billion last week. The transaction will be completed by December 2021.
