Global revival will have India playing a leading role: Indian PM

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the inaugural address at India Global Week 2020, his first major global address since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Focusing on the theme of the event, #BeTheRevival: India & A Better New World, he said: The story of global revival will have India playing a leading role.

"History has shown that India has overcome every challenge with a spirit of reform and rejuvenation. The same spirit continues now.

With a clear message on India's commitment to globalisation, the Indian PM added: "Aatmanirbhar Bharat merges domestic production and consumption with global supply chains."

The live event, logged into by audiences from across 52 countries around the world, has been organised by the India Inc. Group as a platform to share ideas and ambitions and promote understanding and partnerships as the world emerges from the shadows of the Covid-19 pandemic.

India Inc. Founder & CEO said: There are two major globalisation stories in the world. The India story is a growth story driven by its people and their talent. Our journey has been about telling this story.

The western media sometimes presents India in a lopsided way. India Inc. is about saying there is another narrative about India. It's not about papering over the cracks but looking at the glass half full.

The three-day event opened with sessions on India's attraction as an investment destination and also its incredible diaspora dividend with the key message of #BeTheRevival. The course of the three days will see high-profile ministers, business people and artists join in the stream from different parts of the world.

Besides a focus of the India-UK bilateral ties and an enhanced special relationship in a post-Brexit world, there are a series of country-specific sessions covering India's ties with countries such as the US, Australia, Singapore and Japan.
