The new centres will be set up in 10 Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata.

Amazon's India unit plans to set up 10 new fulfilment centres across the country, as the ecommerce firm gears up to cater to a surge in demand for online buying.

With the expansion, Amazon will have over 60 fulfilment centres across 15 Indian states with an area equivalent to more than 100 football fields, the company said in a blog post.

The new centres will be set up in 10 Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, it added. The company also said it would expand seven of its existing fulfilment centres.

Akhil Saxena, VP, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA and LATAM, Amazon India, said: “The increase in storage capacity is in line with our long-term commitment to invest in India and we are delighted to help Indian customers get everything they need, while keeping our customers and our workforce safe. With the expanded network of more than 60 fulfilment centres, we look forward to creating thousands of job opportunities with competitive pay.”
